One reason Jesus, the second Person of the Trinity, left heaven and came to Earth as a human baby was that God wanted him to, and he always did the Father’s will.

John Mark was at the centre of the dispute between Paul and Barnabas. What led to that, and what happened afterward that made Paul praise John Mark as one of his chief comforts and helpers? And what can we learn from Mark’s story, and the fact that he eventually wrote the gospel that bears his name?

Balaam was a prophet who used his gift to earn money by uttering blessings and curses. (Yes, that used to be a thing.) He also had a donkey, who was wiser than he was.

Deborah is the only female prophet and judge mentioned in the Bible. She obeyed a message from God that resulted in the end of the Canaanite threat to Israel, although she was not a warrior or the one who delivered the final victory. Her heroism was in responding in faith to a call to do what she never expected.

Pastor Ryan Emmons’ January 2022 sermon series, “But Because He Said So”, looks at some of the times that Jesus asked people to do something that seemed crazy, and what happened when they took him at his word and did it anyway “because he said so”. The series is based on the story of the miraculous catch of fish in Luke 5. What can we learn from what, how and who Jesus asks, and the responses of people to his requests? How might this affect our responses to what Jesus asks us to do?

January 9: Part 1 – The Miraculous Catch of Fish
January 16: Part 2 – “Look, All I Know is This” (the man blind from birth)
January 23: Part 3 – “As I Have Loved” (the woman caught in adultery)
January 30: Sorry — due to a technical glitch this one didn’t get recorded.
