Creation Care

Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.” (NLT)

In the beginning, God made people to live in his garden, to tend it and to care for the animals. (Genesis 1) That work went wrong because people followed their own interests instead of God’s instructions, and today our natural world is suffering in very many ways as a result. But God’s ultimate plan is the redemption and restoration of the world, a new heaven and a new earth, where people with new hearts can live as He originally intended.

It is easy to become discouraged when we look at the state of the natural world today. But as Christians, we find hope in God with us and in the fact that we are can participate in the redemption of the Earth that is already going on. Here are links to Christian organizations that are working to restore God’s good creation in many varied ways. Here is hope.

The Creation Collective is a network of like-minded Canadian churches and Christian organizations that want to act on creation care. They have videos, films, Bible studies, workshops, guides, sermon ideas, and more.

In an environmental context often characterized by fear and paralysis, A Rocha Canada brings hope through care of both people and places. In Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia, they are preserving sensitive habitats and threatened species, growing food sustainably and feeding people living on low income, inspiring school children and training young people.

A Rocha has many online resources for individuals and churches who want to make a difference to the part of the planet where they live. They also sponsor an annual creation-care conference in Winnipeg.

A Rocha Canada and Tearfund Canada conducted a survey and held focus groups with young people about their beliefs surrounding creation care. They found that young people urgently want to work for creation care in their churches. You can read about their findings here.

A Rocha International is a global family of conservation organizations working together to live out God’s calling to care for creation and equip others to do likewise. They also have many resources for churches and for individuals.
