Children are a Gift from the Lord

Happy Father’s Day to our biological, adoptive, and spiritual fathers. We appreciate everything you do!

Psalm 86 (NLT) ; 詩 篇 86 (CUVS)

1 Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;
answer me, for I need your help.
2 Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
3 Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
4 Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
5 O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
6 Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
7 I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.
8 No pagan god is like you, O Lord.
None can do what you do!
9 All the nations you made
will come and bow before you, Lord;
they will praise your holy name.
10 For you are great and perform wonderful deeds.
You alone are God.

16 Look down and have mercy on me.
Give your strength to your servant;
save me, the son of your servant.
17 Send me a sign of your favor.
Then those who hate me will be put to shame,
for you, O Lord, help and comfort me.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice! ~ Philippians 4:4

Rejoice in the Lord Always

Rejoice! The word means to show great joy or delight, like the girl in the photo is doing. You might think she would be crying, because her face, her hair, and her white shirt are splotchy with paint. But no, she is happy.

Of course, it might be fun to be splattered with paint. But often things happen to us that aren’t fun at all. Someone might hurt us: splat blue paint. Or keep us from having something we want: splat yellow. Or we might be hungry: splat gray. Or lonely: splat green. Or we might need help but no one wants to help: splat purple.

But through all of these things, we Christians still have things to rejoice about. God knows us better than we know ourselves. He sees everything we are going through, and he loves us forever. He forgives us when we do things wrong, so we don’t have to feel guilty. Jesus has made us his brothers and sisters, and he gives us the strength to get through anything the world can throw at us. (For more reasons to rejoice, read Psalm 86 at the top of this page!)

So rejoice in the Lord always! Again I say: rejoice!

Our Father, thank you that you give us so many reasons to rejoice in you. Help us know in our hearts that you are here with us right now. We love you. Amen!

Prayer for our World:

Our CBM prayer this week is from Dennis Shierman, Regional Representative for Western Canada. You can read his prayer here: https://www.cbmin.org/prayerline/.

Romans 6:1-11 (NLT) ; 羅 馬 書 6:1-11 (CUVS)

Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.

5 我 们 若 在 他 死 的 形 状 上 与 他 联 合 , 也 要 在 他 复 活 的 形 状 上 与 他 联 合 ;

6 因 为 知 道 我 们 的 旧 人 和 他 同 钉 十 字 架 , 使 罪 身 灭 绝 , 叫 我 们 不 再 作 罪 的 奴 仆 ;

Christ, Our Hope in Life and Death – Keith and Kristyn Getty, Matt Papa

May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.     ~Romans 15:5-6  (NLT)
