Join us to worship together, though apart, now that our Sunday services have moved online because of the COVID-19 virus.

Meditation:

Psalm 116 (NLT) ;詩 篇 116 (CUVS)

1 I love the Lord because he hears my voice
and my prayer for mercy.
2 Because he bends down to listen,
I will pray as long as I have breath!
3 Death wrapped its ropes around me;
the terrors of the grave overtook me.
I saw only trouble and sorrow.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“Please, Lord, save me!”
5 How kind the Lord is! How good he is!
So merciful, this God of ours!
6 The Lord protects those of childlike faith;
I was facing death, and he saved me.
7 Let my soul be at rest again,
for the Lord has been good to me.
8 He has saved me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.
9 And so I walk in the Lord’s presence
as I live here on earth!

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come.
~ Matthew 6:9-10a

Thy Kingdom Come

Today we are looking at the second line of the Lord’s Prayer. The verse above is in old-fashioned English so it matches the song in the video, and because that is how we usually pray the Lord’s Prayer together in church. Here is what it sounds like in the International Children’s Bible:

We pray that your kingdom will come.

A kingdom is a place that is ruled over by a king. When you think of a “kingdom”, what do you think of? Maybe a fancy castle like the one in the picture? Our king is Jesus, and the Bible tells us that one day the whole Earth will be his kingdom, and it describes the lovely place where we will all live. But for now, God’s kingdom isn’t a particular place. It is wherever people do what God wants, which is to love God and to love people. When we believe in Jesus and do this, God’s kingdom comes wherever we are.

So when we pray this line of the Lord’s Prayer, we are telling God that we want to be part of his kingdom right now, and we want to help bring his kingdom of love to the people around us.

Our Father, thank you that you love us so much that you sent Jesus to Earth so we can be part of your kingdom. Please help us love you back. Show us how to love the people around us so your kingdom will come to them too. Amen.

Here is the video of some children singing the Lord’s Prayer. You can do the actions and sing along with them!

Prayer:

Here is the weekly prayer from CBM (Canadian Baptist Ministries), the Missions branch of our denomination. This week it comes from our Rwandan Field Staff Darrell and Laura Lee Bustin: www.cbmin.org/prayerline/.

Scripture:

17 And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.” 18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. 19 It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 20 God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.

21 Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.

22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.

23 For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
