June 13, 2021 “Just a Seed”

Our online worship service contains the Scripture readings and links to the songs we use in our in-person service. Pastor Ryan’s sermon is recorded during the service and added to this page the next week. Our past online Sunday services are here. Our in-person worship service starts at 10:30 am and you can register here. (COVID restrictions and protocols still in effect.) If the service is full, our Sunday morning Connections Cafe (on zoom) has lots of room!

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise – Walter Chalmers Smith, Steve Green

1st Scripture Lesson

Psalm 92:1-4, 12-15 (NLT) ; 詩 篇 92:1-4, 12-15 (CUVS)

92 It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to the Most High.
It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
    your faithfulness in the evening,
accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp,
    and the melody of a lyre.

You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me!
    I sing for joy because of what you have done.

12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees
    and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
13 For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
    They flourish in the courts of our God.
14 Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
    they will remain vital and green.
15 They will declare, “The Lord is just!
    He is my rock!
    There is no evil in him!”

2nd Scripture Lesson

 22 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take a branch from the top of a tall cedar, and I will plant it on the top of Israel’s highest mountain. 23 It will become a majestic cedar, sending forth its branches and producing seed. Birds of every sort will nest in it, finding shelter in the shade of its branches. 24 And all the trees will know that it is I, the Lord, who cuts the tall tree down and makes the short tree grow tall. It is I who makes the green tree wither and gives the dead tree new life. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do what I said!”

22 主 耶 和 华 如 此 说 : 我 要 将 香 柏 树 梢 拧 去 栽 上 , 就 是 从 尽 尖 的 嫩 枝 中 折 一 嫩 枝 , 栽 於 极 高 的 山 上 ;

Prayer for our World

Our CBM prayer this Holy Week is from Emad Botros, CBM Field Staff in Lebanon.

“Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for inviting us to be your sons and daughters, and not just your servants. We thank you for your goodness, mercy, and grace; they are new every morning.

… We pray also for the ongoing ministry among children and youth. Many kids live under stress and pressure whether because of COVID-19, staying home, or feeling the stress that their parents are going through. We ask you, O Lord, to have mercy on these kids, bring a smile to their faces through the many creative and entertaining activities, gifts, and Bible stories shared with them.”

3rd Scripture Reading:

So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. For we live by believing and not by seeing. Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. 10 For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.

14 Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. 15 He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

14 原 来 基 督 的 爱 激 励 我 们 ; 因 我 们 想 , 一 人 既 替 众 人 死 , 众 人 就 都 死 了 ;

4th Scripture Reading:

26 Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. 28 The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. 29 And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.”

30 Jesus said, “How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? 31 It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, 32 but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.”

33 Jesus used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand. 34 In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them.

28 地 生 五 谷 是 出 於 自 然 的 : 先 发 苗 , 後 长 穗 , 再 後 穗 上 结 成 饱 满 的 子 粒 ;

Song of Response:

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. ~ Ephesians 3:20–21
