1st Scripture: Opening Meditation

Psalm 106:1-6, 19-23 (NLT) ; 詩 篇 106:1-6, 19-23 (CUVS)

106 Praise the Lord!

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
    His faithful love endures forever.
Who can list the glorious miracles of the Lord?
Who can ever praise him enough?
There is joy for those who deal justly with others
and always do what is right.

Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people;
    come near and rescue me.
Let me share in the prosperity of your chosen ones.
    Let me rejoice in the joy of your people;
let me praise you with those who are your heritage.

Like our ancestors, we have sinned.
We have done wrong! We have acted wickedly!

19The people made a calf at Mount Sinai;
they bowed before an image made of gold.
20 They traded their glorious God
    for a statue of a grass-eating bull.
21 They forgot God, their savior,
who had done such great things in Egypt—
22 such wonderful things in the land of Ham,
such awesome deeds at the Red Sea.
23 So he declared he would destroy them.
But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the Lord and the people.
He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them.

God saved you by his Grace when you believed. ~ Ephesians 2:8 (NLT)

Girl covering her dad's eyes while he is holding a present. This illustrates the grace aspect of the text: God saved you by his Grace when you believed."

Everyone likes to get gifts. Especially when it isn’t your birthday, or Christmas, or Valentine’s Day, and someone gives you something for no reason at all, except that they love you. In the picture, the girl’s Dad has just gotten a gift. He looks pretty happy. The girl looks happy too, because it is also fun to give someone a gift.

Our verse today says that God “saved” us. This means that he forgave all of the things we do that we shouldn’t, so we don’t have to be punished for them. He did this when we believed in Jesus, his son, who took our punishment for us when he died on the cross.

It also says that God saved us by his “grace”. The word “grace” in the Bible means giving love and kindness to someone just because you want to, not because they deserve it in any way. That’s how God loves us. We don’t have to be special or extra good or do anything to make him love us. He just does. Always. Because he wants to.

That sounds like God is giving us a gift, doesn’t it? Two gifts: his love and his “salvation” (a big word that means he saved us). And if we look at the next part of this verse, we see another G word that tells us this is exactly what it means! Here it is:

God saved you by his Grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a Gift from God. And that is something to be thankful for!

Our Father, thank you that you always love us, no matter what. Thank you Jesus, for loving us enough to be punished in our place for all the bad things we have done and will do. Thank you for the gift of saving us. Help us believe in you always. Amen.

2nd Scripture Lesson:

25 O Lord, I will honor and praise your name,
    for you are my God.
You do such wonderful things!
    You planned them long ago,
and now you have accomplished them.
You turn mighty cities into heaps of ruins.
Cities with strong walls are turned to rubble.
Beautiful palaces in distant lands disappear
    and will never be rebuilt.
Therefore, strong nations will declare your glory;
    ruthless nations will fear you.

But you are a tower of refuge to the poor, O Lord,
a tower of refuge to the needy in distress.
You are a refuge from the storm
and a shelter from the heat.
For the oppressive acts of ruthless people
are like a storm beating against a wall,
or like the relentless heat of the desert.
But you silence the roar of foreign nations.
As the shade of a cloud cools relentless heat,
so the boastful songs of ruthless people are stilled.

In Jerusalem, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies
    will spread a wonderful feast
for all the people of the world.
It will be a delicious banquet
with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat.
There he will remove the cloud of gloom,
the shadow of death that hangs over the earth.
He will swallow up death forever!
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears.
He will remove forever all insults and mockery
    against his land and people.
    The Lord has spoken!

In that day the people will proclaim,
“This is our God!
We trusted in him, and he saved us!
This is the Lord, in whom we trusted.
Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!”

Prayer for our World

3rd Scripture Lesson

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.

Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life.

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Goodness of God – Bethel Music

4th Scripture Lesson

22 Jesus also told them other parables. He said, “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come!

“So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘The feast has been prepared. The bulls and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!’ But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business. Others seized his messengers and insulted them and killed them.

“The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town. And he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor. Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’ 10 So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests.

11 “But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. 12 ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply. 13 Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

那 些 人 不 理 就 走 了 ; 一 个 到 自 己 田 里 去 ; 一 个 作 买 卖 去 ;
